Die Angaben in Telepolis von Thomas Pany (…):

General Mohammed Abdullah Schahwani [wartet], mit Zahlen einer ganz anderen Dimension auf:
“Ich bin der Überzeugung, der Widerstand ist größer als die Zahl der amerikanischen Truppen im Irak. Ich glaube, der Widerstand ist mehr als 200.000 Mann stark.”
Den Kern sollen etwa 40.000 Hard-core-Kämpfer bilden, die von einer großen Zahl von “Teilzeit-Kämpfern” (Part-time fighters) und Freiwilligen unterstützt werden, welche den Rebellen jede Unterstützung von Informationen, Logistik aller Art und Unterschlupf gewähren.

(…) oder was Christopher Allbritton schreibt:

General Muhammad Abdullah Shahwani (…is) being quoted as putting the number at 200,000 (…) He’s been widely — and literally — misinterpreted. I have a translation of the original Jan. 4 interview in Al-Sharq newspaper and it’s clear he’s talking about the passive support of the insurgency.

Diese Übersetzung klingt in der Tat ganz anders:

Their number is between 20,000 and 30,000, in all of Iraq, distributed in the Sunni area. And the people who live in this area and emotionally support them, are about 200,000 without offering them money or logistic support. As an example, they don’t give any information about their activities if they have this information.
